Polished concrete looks stunning and can enhance the beauty of any property. It’s also very easy to clean and maintain, and can easily endure considerable amount of foot traffic. Because of this, many residential and commercial property owners have started to install concrete flooring in their homes and workplaces. However, it’s not easy to polish concrete and get that perfect gloss finish. You need to have good quality tools, equipment, and the right skill to get good results. At Domcrete, we have a collection of the best concrete polishing equipment available in the market today.
What Do You Need?
Concrete polishing requires equipment, even if you want to polish just a concrete countertop surface. The process of polishing is pretty straight forward and to reach every level of polish, you require grinders and polishing pads of different sizes. Your first step is to prepare the surface and make sure it’s as clean and level as it can be. That would ensure you get good results. After that, you need:
- Equipment – You need a floor or hand-held polisher based on your requirements. For countertops, we recommend hand-held polishers because floor polishers are just too heavy and might damage the concrete countertop.
- Abrasives – These polish the surface and it’s important to choose good quality abrasives to get the best results. If you have a particular project in mind and don’t know what kind of abrasive would work for you, just give us a call and we’ll recommend the right grit level for the job.
- Sealants – After the floor is polished, you should add a stain guard or topical treatment. While the surface is hardened and won’t stain easily, kitchen countertops are exposed to a number of slightly acidic substances like tomatoes, lemons, and vinegar. It’s a good idea to seal the surface.
Different levels of polish require different density of grit on the grinding disc. There are two types of grits, the coarse diamond segment ones work to remove the rough layer from the surface and have abrasive levels between 16 and 300 grit. The finer diamond segment ones have the abrasive level of 100 and 3000 grit. As you can guess, the highest grit level would give the best polish so if you want a glass-like sheen on the countertop, you need to use abrasives with 1500 to 3000 grit.
